Resqdebt Joins Allen Recycling Program
Mon, 10/12/2009 (All day)
Allen, Texas - Resqdebt plans to save a little green – trees and dollars – by joining the recycling program of the City of Allen.
The Financial Health Management Company believes it can make a significant impact on pollution and act as careful stewards of the environment. Resqdebt volunteered for the program in order to do its part in protecting Mother Nature.
The changes were implemented in August at the company’s headquarters, located at 1301 Central Expressway South in Allen. The company has an opportunity to be an example to the other employers in the city, as well as the clients of the company.
”We teach our clients not to waste their resources,” said Heath Tudor, Resqdebt consumer liaison officer. “We should follow that same advice in all respects.”
Throughout the office, the company has stationed multiple waste containers that allow refuse to be separated based on its ability to be recycled. Employees have been asked to use the appropriate container for the disposal of each item. Recyclable items include plastic bottles, plastic cans, paperboard boxes, aluminum cans, steel cans, glass bottles, and glass jars.
To cut down on environmentally unfriendly waste, the company also has replaced the plastic and styrofoam cups that it once used with official company cups and tumblers that are reusable.
So far, The City of Allen’s recycling efforts have focused mainly on families and the Allen Independent School District, said Kathy Keller-Mielke, an education specialist with the City of Allen’s Community Services Department, which runs the recycling program. Keller-Mielke said she was thrilled when she received a call from Resqdebt wishing to participate, giving the city a chance to extend recycling into the commercial sector.
“Community Services Waste Services Division congratulates Resqdebt on their commitment to environmental leadership in Allen’s commercial community,” Keller-Mielke said.
A recycling program can help a company not only environmentally but financially, Keller-Mielke said.
“The bottom line value is that recycling correctly and on a large scale will reduce the company’s waste costs over the long run,” Keller-Mielke said. “Community Waste Disposal charges less to collect and haul recycling than it does to collect and haul trash.”
Recycling decreases litter, uses less water and energy than making new products from virgin materials, diminishes air pollutants caused by production, saves landfill space, and cuts down on deforestation, Keller-Mielke said.
The goals of the program include reducing the amount of litter in the city and trash in the landfill, reduce waste among citizens and educate children on the value of recycling.
